Today's business enterprises in general and Telecom business in particular needs to be agile
and operation-lean. In such situation, where investments are reevaluated periodically,
Telecom Managers are finding it difficult to invest in acquiring the knowledge and capabilities
they need to establish MIS and specially BOSS programs, road-maps, evaluate existing solutions.
Moreover the cost of continuously educating, maintaining MIS/BOSS highly qualified within the
organization is difficult to justify.
Solutions identification, evaluation, and requirement definition processes are long and resource intensive.
RFP/RFI/Proof of concepts are lengthy processes, absorb a lot of operational resources, and are
far from delivering identified needs (SmartPath BOSS assessment research shows that about
10% of such processes meet their objectives within the time frame and budget allocated for them).
BOSS ROI is still a tricky issue for most scenarios; in consequence, Go/No-Go Management
decisions are hard to take and justify.
Market solutions are based on common requirements: the alignment of a particular solution
within a specific business needs a thorough synchronization between all established programs,
projects and initiatives, which in turn affects the initially defined budgets, time-frame and
resources required.
All problems are not going to solved in one solution. Integration is not plug and play. Upgrade an
implemented solution is inherently risky due to incomplete documentation of current solution
configurations, changes in adjacent systems, required upgrades of other systems.
